Kenjaku vs Medusa (Jujutsu Kaisen vs Soul Eater)

“When you're in my body, it pushes out my brain, so I have no control.”- Jake the Dog

Kenjaku, the evilest sorcerer in history from Jujutsu Kaisen

Medusa Gorgon, the snake witch from Soul Eater

What do you get when you switch bodies, enjoy child abuse, and want to unleash unspeakable evils by using malevolent forces?

You get Orochimaru but he’s not here right now.

So instead we’ll have these two fight to the death.

Before We Start…

For both combatants, we’ll obviously be using the manga, as well as include their anime adaptations. The Jujutsu Kaisen anime is a faithful adaptation of the manga, so there’s obviously no issues there. While the actual story of the Soul Eater anime differs significantly from the manga by its endpoint, the feats, scaling, and abilities Medusa showcases (especially prior to the divergence) are all within what her manga counterpart should be capable of, so using them for supporting evidence is within reason. Any anime feats for both will be denoted as such separately from their manga feats.

Background

Kenjaku

It is October 31, 2018. Satoru Gojo is sealed. A portion of Shibuya has been wiped off the map, and ten million cursed spirits have been released. The instigator of the incident was none other than…Suguru Geto? Back from the dead?

In actuality this was not Suguru Geto but instead Noritoshi Kamo!

But that’s also not true! Years upon years bodies and name changes have given them different identities, but they are simply known to most as Kenjaku. Born with the technique to swap and switch bodies, Kenjaku would live for thousands of years concocting all sorts of schemes, be it the creation of the Death Paintings or helping Sukuna live on through his fingers. For what reason you may ask?

SCIENCE

Well to be more specific he wanted to bring out humanity’s potential in utilizing cursed energy and kickstart a new age of Jujutsu sorcery. What that entails could be anyone’s guess. It could be an abomination of unspeakable proportions. It could be a giant tree. It could be a clown face. No matter what would happen, Kenjaku wanted to see what the end result would be.

So he used his technique to steal Suguru Geto’s body, made a binding vow with several sorcerers to reincarnate into the modern world, and absorbed his cursed spirit “pal” Mahito and used his technique combined with Geto’s to kickstart “The Culling Game”, a nationwide event forcing Jujutsu sorcerers to slaughter each other in the name of understanding cursed energy.

The event went “smoothly”, and Kenjaku was on the verge of witnessing his plan come into fruition. He even managed to steal the legendary Tengen and kill Special Grade Sorcerer Yuki Tsukumoi. And yet in spite of all of his plans, tactics, and years of experience, he couldn’t be prepared for his fight against one sorcerer in particular: Fumihiko Takaba

In spite of all of his knowledge and years of combat, he couldn’t quite grasp the toon force ass abilities Takaba had. There was actually a chance he could lose this bout. And yet…Kenjaku was having fun. It was the embodiment of a sorcerer's imagination and potential. Their bout ended in a stand up comedy routine for the ages, giving Takaba the show he wanted this whole time. As the technique ended and Takaba rested, Kenjaku would create his first real bond with someone that wasn’t himself. Unfortunately for him, this distraction was exactly what our heroes were counting on, as Yuta struck and decapitated the madman.

But even in death, Kenjaku didn’t cry or lash out. He simply laughed and proposed that his will would be passed on even in death, with perhaps another scheme brewing beyond the grave.

Medusa

800 years ago, the first Kishin known as Asura wreaked havoc across the planet through the Madness of Fear. His father, Lord Death, defeated him and sealed him away alongside his Madness deep underground in what would soon be known as Death City. But now, he has been revived and unleashed upon the world once more, throwing everything into chaos. The perpetrator behind his release was none other than Medusa Gorgon.

Born as one of the Gorgon Sister witches during the 1200s, after her sister Arachne's actions in creating the Magic Weapons marked her for death, Medusa severed all ties with her older sister and left her to nearly die by Death's hand. She then spent the next centuries scheming and performing dastard experiments, researching Madness and all of its intricacies in order to create the very next Kishin. She found the power of the Kishin to be beyond all understanding and the next step in evolution, and something that can undermine the current status quo and establish a new world order to satiate her boredom. All of that was too intriguing for a mad scientist like her.

How would she create another Kishin? Experiment on her own child Crona of course!

Medusa eventually created the substance known as Black Blood and melted down the Demon Weapon known as Ragnarok to be fused with it. She replaced all of Crona’s blood with Black Blood and Ragnarok to make them a guinea pig for her own curiosity. She made Crona’s life a living hell, raising them to be a killer and neglecting to show any maternal affection, all to drive Crona to become the next Kishin. However, Crona became too dependent on Medusa’s orders, and so was deemed a failure. Medusa then initiated plan B: infiltrate Death Weapon Meister Academy and release Asura herself. And she succeeded!

Not without having her body destroyed. Unfortunately, Medusa managed to survive by splitting her soul into pieces and implanting them into a snake body before possessing the body of a little girl named Rachel Boyd. Medusa learned that her supposedly long dead sister Arachne actually survived and returned to the world after witnessing Asura’s Madness. Knowing the threat Arachne and her gang could pose to the world (see: her experiments), Medusa met up with DWMA and formed a temporary truce and agreement: infiltrate her hideout, Baba Yaga Castle, to take down her sister, but with her leading the operation. DWMA reluctantly agreed, and in a long and grueling battle, they managed to defeat Arachne, who became a being of pure Madness. Unfortunately, that was exactly what Medusa needed, as she ended up possessing her sister’s empty body and regained her magical power. She quickly departed Baba Yaga Castle, ready to continue more of her dastard experiments.

Using the Black Blood, Medusa created the Black Clown to test its abilities compared to the ones Asura produces, and later made it fuse and augment Crona's powers. She decided to perform one final experiment, in which she sends Crona to cause havoc in Ukraine with their new power, eventually leading to Crona destroying an entire city. When Crona returned home, Medusa enacted the final stages of her plan, to do the one thing she has never done in her entire life: show and give Crona the motherly affection they craved for so long.

This caused Crona to snap, and they stabbed Medusa over and over again. All this was to ensure Crona would throw away all ties of humanity and support they had in their life. With one last disturbing smile, Medusa pronounced that she loved Crona before meeting her end. Soon enough, Crona succeeded in becoming the next Kishin, and Medusa died satisfied, knowing that her greatest experiment was a success.

Experience & Skill

Kenjaku

That’s not just any kind of flexing. Kenjaku’s body hopping experiences have given him access to a plethora of knowledge at his disposal that has allowed him to manipulate several of the world’s greatest sorcerers, even being the one to plot and successfully seal Satoru Gojo and start the Shibuya Incident. He’s been stated to be the second best at barrier techniques, and has learned extremely difficult abilities such as a Barrier-less domain and Reverse Curse Technique.

Of course this skill applies within combat as well. Kenjaku has shown the ability to deduce the weakness in Yuki’s ability, used a boxing trick to mitigate the damage done by Choso’s Piercing Blood, and even figured out Takaba’s reality bending technique in a short time.

Medusa

In terms of fighting skill, Medusa’s style is primarily defensive. She focuses on a mix of magic, kicks, blocking hits, and using her tail snake. She rarely leaves any openings on the battlefield, making her a challenge for well skilled fighters like Stein. She believed she’d be capable of defeating Enrique in the blink of an eye, a monkey quite skilled in boxing.

Having lived for over 800 years, Medusa is extremely intelligent and manipulative. She managed to disguise herself as a nurse within Death Academy for a long time right under everyone's noses, and as a result figured out the secret of DWMA hiding a Kishin underneath it without much trouble. She also convinced Lord Death to follow through with an operation to infiltrate Baba Yaga Castle and emotionally manipulated Maka using Crona, all just to steal Arachne’s body for herself.

She has conducted several experiments throughout the years researching Madness, and created deadly weapons of destruction, such as Black Blood, the Black Clown, and the Purple Clown. She also has extensive medical knowledge, capable of creating substances that speed up the effects of Black Blood on a person.

Equipment

Kenjaku

Prison Realm

A cube used to seal the almighty Satoru Gojo. After saying the phrase “open”, the Prison Realm awakens and proceeds to seal off the movements and cursed energy of the target. While powerful, it requires a minute to take effect and for the target to be within a four meter radius.

Medusa

Crystal Ball

A surveillance camera of sorts used by Witches. Through the snakes hidden in someone’s body, Medusa can use these crystal balls to view and hear ongoing events far away from her, though later chapters imply she can do this without a snake.

Snakes

Medusa’s favorite pets to use in battle that are hidden within her tattoos. She carries around 1,000 of these snakes in her body, and they have several uses in and out of combat. She can obviously use them to attack people, and they’re strong enough to completely tear apart a person or break Medusa free from any bindings or traps like Stein’s stitches. Given they’re automatic, Medusa can freely use these snakes even when under Soul Protect. These snakes are also capable of flight, giving her good aerial coverage.

Medusa has various ways to implant these snakes inside a person, whether it be by shoving them inside their mouths or planting one inside a pen to later put inside a drink. When a snake is inside someone, Medusa can either take them out quickly by ripping them apart from the inside or keep them alive for other uses. Via the snakes in someone’s body, Medusa can see through their eyes, track them down via a signal, communicate with them, or use it to eavesdrop on conversations. She can even infuse her snakes with demonic power that speeds up the onset of Madness on a person, most effective when during a Soul Resonance.

Black Clown

A man-made clown created by Medusa that is composed of Black Blood. Given its composition, the Black Clown is extremely durable, capable of surviving multiple strikes from top DWMA students like Kilik and Kimial. Whenever it’s attacked, it turns its droplets of blood into offensive needles to act as a quick countermeasure. While it can’t produce as many as its creator, the Black Clown is also capable of utilizing Vector Arrows for greater coverage and ranged attacks. It can also liquify its body as a means of escaping before solidifying.

While it’s not as potent as that of a true Clown, the Black Clown can generate a Madness Wavelength. These wavelengths draw out the inner madness within a person, causing all sorts of side effects such as illusions and leaving soldiers bed ridden from insanity.

While the Black Clown ultimately merged with Crona later down the series, it is still ultimately Medusa’s creation, and she has shown control over it

Purple Clown

A small little portable Clown made as a prototype of the Black Clown used for Crona. Like other clowns, it can generate its own Madness Wavelength and even be used as a means of countering the Madness Wavelength of others. Medusa can also use it to participate in Madness Fusion to become even stronger within combat.

Broom

It’s a magic broom that lets her fly. That’s it.

Abilities

Kenjaku

Cursed Energy

A weaponized form of main energy utilized by all sorcerers, Cursed Energy utilizes negative feelings and emotions to enhance many aspects of combat. Flowing from the gut to the rest of the body, Cursed Energy is applied primarily through creating curse techniques, but can be utilized in many other ways. It can enhance the physicality of others, allow them to see and interact with spirits, and protect the body from foreign intrusions and soul based techniques.

Binding Vow

A set of restrictions and rules placed by a sorcerer. Breaking a vow can invoke a dangerous punishment, but in return can create new ways to achieve one's goal. Kenjaku’s binding vow isn’t clearly known, but it relates to the scar present on his head at all times.

Curtain

A special barrier that can be casted to prevent people from entering or exiting. Curtains can cut off outside communication, shifting the environment to night, and bring cursed spirits out of hiding.

Cursed Techniques

Body Swap

The inherited technique Kenjaku was born with and utilized to live for thousands of years. By replacing one's brain with his own, Kenjaku is able to gain access to all of the memories and techniques the user originally had as long as the body is intact. The brain swap doesn’t cause any internal or external changes apart from the scar, and most people aren’t able to tell the difference between the original and Kenjaku. Even Gojo’s Six Eyes were unable to notice any physical differences.

Cursed Spirit Manipulation

The technique was acquired after obtaining the body of Suguru Geto. Cursed Spirit Manipulation allows Kenjaku to control any spirit he takes in. This process occurs by transforming any defeated curse into a black sphere and consuming them orally, giving the user complete dominance over the spirit. This can also be accomplished by killing the master of the cursed spirit. If the curse is two grades below the user, the curse can be absorbed without defeating it, and there’s seemingly no limit towards how many spirits a user can absorb.

Thanks to inhabiting Geto’s body, Kenjaku has amassed several notable curses to utilize in the midst of combat. Some of the unnamed but useful curses he can utilize include:

As a note, because Geto expelled his spirits before dying in JJK 0, none of his spirits will be given to Kenjaku. The ones listed are spirits Kenjaku collected after obtaining the body.

Smallpox Deity

A special grade disease curse spirit. Its primary ability is to encase its target within a coffin that counts down starting from three. Once the countdown hits zero, the target is infected with small pox, leading towards death. This effect can become a guaranteed hit by utilizing a domain expansion, which targets a being with the most amount of cursed energy.

Kuroushi

A special grade curse summoned by Kenjaku to participate in the Culling Games. Born from the fear of cockroaches, Kuroshi contains many techniques relating to his insect origins. He can summon a swarm of cockroaches that devour flesh in seconds, and use said flesh to stimulate parthenogenesis. This in turn can allow Kuroshi to reproduce and revive himself. He even can use a weapon known as the “Festering Life Sword”, which can on contact instantly hatch eggs that continue to devour anything it touches.

Ganesha

A special grade curse with the ability to “remove all obstacles” by entangling a concept with its target. While we don’t have a clear idea what the ability does, we see Kenjaku utilize it to transport a group of soldiers into the sky and fall to their deaths.

Tengen

An immortal sorcerer turned cursed spirit known for her speciality in barrier techniques. She can create barriers that shape and manipulate the appearance of areas, smaller vacant barriers, or ones that can hide areas from others. After obtaining this spirit Kenjaku was planning on using her barriers that were placed around key aspects of Japan, which could amplify the barrier techniques of other sorcerers.

Maximum:Uzumaki

A “Maximum Technique” that utilizes every spirit Kenjaku has by turning into a giant swirl of condensed cursed energy, creating a giant explosion in the process.  While at first it appears to negate the strength of Cursed Spirit Manipulation, if any spirit Kenjaku has is a semi grade one or higher, their cursed techniques can be extracted and later utilized for further use. This was displayed when Kenjaku used the technique to extract Idle Transfiguration to kickstart the Culling Games.

Alongside the large scale version, Kenjaku can use a miniature version of the technique, which is not only quicker but maintains a great level of power. It had enough power to severely damage special grade sorcerer Yuki.

Reverse Cursed Technique

A special cursed technique invoked by turning the negative cursed energy and multiplying it into positive energy. By doing this, Kenjaku can heal substantial wounds he’s used in battle, such as fixing his arms from being completely broken, and even the top of his head being lobbed off. Other uses of RCT have included repairing eyes, cuts to the throat, and minor damage to the brain.

Antigravity System

A special cursed technique inherited from Yuji Itadori’s mother. This technique seemingly grants Kenjaku the ability to nullify the gravity around him, to which he used in order to survive a Black Hole from Yuki Tsukumo. The primary application of this technique was utilized when Kenjaku applied his reverse cursed technique to intensify the gravity around him.

Domain Expansion: Womb Profusion

By expanding one's inner domain into a barrier technique, a sorcerer can access the peak of Jujutsu: Domain Expansion. A Domain is a space imbued and created with cursed energy, specifically with an innate technique. Expanding one's Domain can provide many benefits to the user, with the main advantage being a sure hit effect on the target. It can also nullify other cursed techniques to accomplish this, and even boosts the user's stats on top of it.

Whereas most Domains typically have a barrier to ensure no escape, Kenjaku’s Womb Profusion differs a good deal by losing a barrier in exchange for a massive increase in range. While its direct effects are unknown, it was able to completely destroy Yuki’s Simple Domain and leave her body completely destroyed.

Resistances

Gravity Manipulation: Anti Gravity Technique. It countered a black hole. I mean…duh

Extreme Heat: Can be within the presence of Jogo, who passively vaporizes the ashes of people and melt metal with no effort. Even other sorcerers such as Yuji have withstood being within Jogo’s Domain, which burns the average sorcerer.

Mind Manipulation: With manual activation, Sorcerors can resist the commands of Cursed Speech.

Soul Manipulation: Can be compared to Nanami, who briefly resisted the initial attempt to transmute his soul by Mahito.

Foreign Intrusions: The body being a living domain means foreign intrusions cannot enter the body. They must be entered through piercing the skin or breathed inside like toxins.

Medusa

Magic

While its origin is unknown, Magic is primarily known to be an incredibly resourceful energy method primarily used by Witches that becomes enhanced when near a Madness Wavelength. This allows them to use various spells for combat. Due to being a reserve of almost limitless energy, the consequence of possessing such power leads to destruction in most cases. This leads to a natural instinct to be born in Witches called the Pull of Magic, making them yearn for destruction.

Medusa is capable of performing Calculation Spells, which uses mathematics to set the exact coordinates of complex magical spells. She used this alongside Eruka to support Free’s Independent Cube technique.

Vector Arrows

The primary application of her magic and main form of combat. Generated from her back, these bladed arrows' main function in combat is to overwhelm and handle multiple opponents at once. Medusa can also use them to shift directions onto a target, create nigh inescapable pathways, turn into a makeshift blade, and even form a miniature snake tail to support her weight in battles.

She also made a cool lantern with one!

Vector Plate

By creating a vector arrow on the ground, Medusa can send anything moving in the direction the arrow is pointing toward. She can use this on others to trip them up or on herself to boost her speed on the battlefield. She can even create an entire ring of vector plates to surround both her and an enemy, guaranteeing that they move towards her.

Vector Storm

Medusa makes a shield of vectors erupt from the ground to both defend herself and force back foes. This can even be used to defend against Madness.

Vector Boost

By applying a Vector Plate onto a limb, Medusa can double the power of physical strikes when force is exerted in the direction of the arrow.

Vector Conduct

Medusa creates invisible arrows that can only be viewed by specific people, useful as navigation pathways.

Compress Vectors

Medusa compresses the target with vectors to briefly restrain them before…well, compressing them. However, someone with enough strength can break free of it.

Analyze Decompose

By shooting a target with a Vector Arrow, Medusa can use her magic to break down the magic defenses in the spot where the arrow stabs the opponent.

Soul Protect

A high level magic spell only used by the best witches, Medusa is capable of enacting this to make her soul wavelength disappear and disguise her soul as a regular human’s. However, she is unable to use any of her magic spells while Soul Protect is on, save for her snakes. Whenever the time is right, Medusa can freely cancel Soul Protect.

Soul Possession

Should Medusa be near death, she has one last final trick to survive another day. By splitting and scattering her soul into tiny pieces, Medusa can later implant her soul into another body and fully possess it, whether it be a human or animal. This technique is a great gamble normally that’s hard to pull off, but when near a Madness Wavelength, her magic is boosted enough to where it’s easier to perform.

Madness Fusion

Thanks to the Purple Clown, Medusa can perform Madness Fusion, which utilizes the Madness emitted by a Clown to perform a sort of evolution within a subject, such as Medusa’s snakes. This increases their power to an incredible degree, capable of harming other Madness Fusion users like Justin.

Resistances

Mind Manipulation (with Purple Clown): While Medusa can be affected normally, the Purple Clown can defend her against and counteract Madness Wavelengths. Madness can induce hallucinations and drive people mad.

Power

Speed

Durability

Scaling

Kenjaku

Special Grade Curses

Being a Special Grade Sorcerer who’s taken on similar threats, Kenjaku should be stronger than many of the Special Grade Curses that even weaker Sorcerers like Yuji and Todo have handled. Gege also stated he’d be capable of defeating Jogo and Mahito in a close fight 1v1, meaning he should be on their levels regardless

Jujutsu Sorcerers

Due to battling special grades, manhandling lesser grades such as Yuji and Miwa, and having the body Suguru Geto, Kenjaku should get the many feats performed by many of the series Sorcerers.

Uraume

As mentioned, due to competing with higher tier sorcerers, Kenjaku should be able to scale to feats performed by Urame

Medusa

Death Academy Students

Medusa has damaged Death Academy Students like Maka before, and given her performances against Stein, she should generally be comparable to the strongest DWMA students, at least before the end of the series.

Death Scythes

Medusa could dodge attacks from Clown Justin, one of the stronger Death Scythes. Given her performances against Stein, it’d also be consistent for her to be on par with some of the higher level Death Scythes throughout the series.

Miscellaneous

Just in general, these are characters and feats Medusa would scale to via fighting on equal footing with the above two

Weaknesses

Kenjaku

As talented as Kenjaku is, he can be full of himself and often disregard the talents of his opponents. This has led to near death experiences such as Yuki almost killing him with the black hole, and his actual death when the heroes used Takaba as a distraction to eventually decapitate him.

In addition many of his notable techniques have some limitations or drawbacks. His Anti-Gravity technique requires a lengthy recharge, and his Domain Expansion drains his cursed energy, leaving him without his tools to defend himself.

Medusa

While Medusa doesn’t have too many notable flaws, she’s still far from perfect. While she is intelligent and cautious when planning fights, she can at times underestimate the capabilities of fighters, which can cause some of her plans to backfire. While also not as frequent, she can get somewhat cocky in her battles. Even in her battle against Stein where she was generally careful approaching him, her pride in unleashing Asura left her briefly wide open for an attack.

While her possession is extremely useful to get out of a bind, it’s also a huge gambit that’s way less likely to succeed without a Madness Wavelength nearby. While her Clown’s can compensate for that, should they be destroyed, Medusa’s chances of possessing an opponent diminish greatly. Also, while the Purple Clown can help defend her from mind and soul attacks, Medusa herself has no defenses against them. If the Purple Clown is out of commission, she’s left wide open for those types of moves.

Before the Verdict

Kashimo’s lightning

There are some arguments for the electricity Kashimo shoots out to be as fast as actual lightning, which would boost up Hakari’s feat of dodging it to be in the MHS+ ranges. The issue with this is that it ignores the main reason why lightning is so fast in the first place. Lightning is accelerated by a strong electrical field as a result of the large voltage difference between a thunderstorm cloud and the ground, a specific condition that Kashimo’s electricity doesn’t meet. It doesn’t even have a statement of being as fast as actual lightning, thus making it unreliable to take to be as fast as cloud to ground lightning.

Black Hole Scaling

This is a bit of a weird feat, so this will go into a bit more detail than the above.

First things first, the black hole should be a real one. Yuki’s main gimmick is manipulating mass and density to an insane degree, and the page itself describes an actual black hole, which makes the intent pretty clear. Now, Kenjaku obviously wouldn’t scale to the full potential planet busting powers of the black hole, as he required his antigravity technique to survive. That said, what would be notable is him visibly surviving and resisting the force and pull of the black hole’s initial size. We see him get visibly contorted but not completely sucked in, which is an impressive durability feat given the force that would be exerted upon being near it.

While some may ask why not calculate Kenjaku’s durability from the expanded size of the black hole, we ultimately don’t see Kenjaku actively resist and survive the bigger black hole’s effects like how we did for the initial one. Additionally, Kenjaku admitting he would’ve died alongside the planet had he not used his antigravity technique would lead credence to the idea that the bigger size would be something he couldn’t survive normally. We ultimately felt it was safer to calculate his durability from surviving the black hole’s initial gravitational effects, which comes out to around 670 megatons.

Verdicts…with a twist!

So…this time around the verdicts will be slightly different. Since I’m not doing this blog completely alone I felt it’d be appropriate to have two verdicts this time around. The first one will be a hypothetical stats equalized scenario with both, and the second will be how it actually plays out.

The Black Shulk (Me)

Yo. Just FYI since this is a bit different from the usual format this verdict is gonna be kinda meaty at least on my end. If you don’t wanna read all this there’s a TLDR in bold at the end.

So let’s just get some of the more basic kinda stuff outta the way first. Kenjaku’s non named spirits won’t be of much help as Medusa can easily clear them out with her vectors and even trying to fly away won’t be much help given she can spawn Vector Plates in the air. Her Vectors even on their own can reach notably far distances and just snipe any movement away from there. Tengen’s barriers could be useful for setting up potential plans, but nothing she does actually would help Kenjaku kill Medusa, much less get a full understanding of her abilities. Ganesha is a bit vague in what it truly does but even with what we’ve seen of it, Medusa can obviously fly so just dropping her off in the sky somewhere randomly wouldn’t do many favors. Finally, the Anti-Gravity technique is basically a brief distraction, as it's way too situational to fully handle the thousands of vectors that Medusa can produce.

On the flip side Medusa isn’t going to be easily making permanent damage on Kenjaku thanks to stuff like RCT healing him. He’s also got better experience in H2H combat given his showings against Choso and Yuki. Options like Soul Protect take out her tools outside of snakes, which in a combat sense isn’t very useful if she’s trying to beat up Kenjaku and needs ways to get those snakes inside without huge risk. Lastly, in a twist of irony that possession that makes the theme of the match would actually not be very useful here. Even setting aside how Medusa only did it due to the madness wavelength boosting her capabilities, she’d have to somehow find a way to enter Kenjaku’s mouth (weirdo) and hope to god he at no point just decides to not rip her in half the moment she tries pulling that shit.

That still leaves both with a fair amount of strong options to take the victory, and there are many scenarios where I could see one pulling one over the other with these tools at hand.

On Kenjaku’s end, the three big ones that come to mind are Kuroshi, the Small Pox Deity, and Domain Expansion. Kuroshi’s ability to basically plant flesh devouring cockroaches at a range or closely would easily fuck up Medusa’s day and with no reliable healing could easily take her out in due time. The Small Pox Deity would basically trap her in a box and without any Simple Domain counter tactics like Mei Mei had, Medusa would eventually die of the disease. At most she could break out of the coffin a few times, but Mei Mei, someone who prides herself on her absurd physical abilities, points out that even she couldn’t break out of it consistently, making it unlikely Medusa could as well. If all else fails, Kenjaku’s Domain Expansion could easily overtake her, completely mangaling her body and leaving her in a state unable to fight. Sure, Yuki was able to get back up from it, but that speaks more about Yuki more than it does about the Domain’s power, and Medusa at least doesn’t have anything that level of extreme pain tolerance.

Medusa’s hand is no slouch either. Those snakes of hers are a walking death sentence if any of them get inside Kenjaku. Even without magic, she can easily detonate them at any time, to the point where RCT wouldn’t be able to heal any fatal wounds, especially when the snakes devour people whole. Even if Medusa doesn’t pop the snakes immediately, they can cause all sorts of side effects that would make Kenjaku unable to fully operate at peak efficiency, mainly the Madness. One tiny snake was enough to completely speed up the rate of Stein’s madness and with thousands at her disposal, that could easily fuck up Kenjaku, especially when JJK doesn’t have any strong mental resistances or any proof of being immune to illusions. All of these Madness buffs can be made even MORE potent with the Black/Purple Clowns on the field amplifying the wavelength of madness at all times. It helps that the clown itself has multiple defensive options to keep itself alive, meaning just simply trying to blow it apart wouldn’t be easy either.

So who’s options will ultimately win out in the end?

Well the answer is this guy

(credit to Yves/Sunmellows for the funny art)

The Black Clown is honest to god one of the best options Medusa has in her kit right now. The wavelength of Madness generated by it simply can’t be actively countered by Kenjaku. Most mental attacks in JJK aren’t resisted very well, such as needing manual activation to counter Cursed Speech or even top tier sorcerers like Gojo briefly falling to Hanami’s will power drain. Even if Kenjaku were to somehow actively know about the wavelength (he doesn’t) and attempted to block it out, there’s nothing in JJK that reaches the level of outright illusion fuckery that is produced by Madness. All of this to say, as long as the Black Clown is out and actively in the field, it will keep Kenjaku disoriented, leaving Medusa with more ways to implement more attacks and use her more devastating win cons with the snakes.

It also helps that Kenjaku is frankly full of himself and prone to dropping his guard and making mistakes that nearly cost him. He nearly got blasted by Choso’s supernova and was forced to activate his Anti-Gravity technique to counter it, nearly died from Yuki’s black hole and needed his technique AGAIN to bail him out, and even died due to being distracted by his fight with Takaba. By comparison, Medusa treats her fights far more seriously, actively making the Purple Clown to prepare for Justin’s Madness abilities and even training leading up to Stein knowing that he isn’t the best at hand to hand combat. Even when confident, Medusa tends to actively keep her wits and not let said confidence get the better of her. The only time she let her confidence get the better of her was when the Kishin released and she felt a sense of pride leading to Stein slicing her in half, something which was a very specific set of circumstances that never occurs again.

That is not to say Kenjaku is always dick riding himself 24/7 in fights. He was able to figure out the weaknesses of Takaba and Yuki’s techniques after being exposed to them for a while, on top of figuring out Tengen’s plan to dismantle his Domain fairly quickly and countering it. However, Medusa herself has her own notable skill feats such as instantly using Stein’s own sewing technique against him and knowing how to avoid leaving any openings in their duel. Combined with the Black Clown’s wavelength, it gives Medusa far more leeway to get her kill options off before Kenjaku can use his more deadly techniques. In a fight like this, it’s the brief decisions that can make or break who wins, and Medusa just has more ways in my eyes to get those options off.

To TLDR for those who didn’t wanna read all that: both have extremely notable kill options, but the Black Clown’s madness wavelength combined with Medusa’s skill and general avoidance in letting her arrogance get the better of her would allow her to implant her snakes and destroy Kenjaku from the inside before any of his tools can get the better of her.

My winner for this fight is Medusa. You don’t get a snake pun.

‘Sup. Shulk basically covered how abilities would go so this will mostly just be me talking about stats

Kenjaku is capable of matching some of the stronger Sorcerers in JJK like Yuki and has manhandled fighters like Yuji. He also has Geto’s body who was already a Special Grade Sorcerer. This gives him scaling to some good feats like Toge causing a crater, Yuji and Maki dodging Piercing Blood and bullets respectively, and most impressively speed wise, microsecond timing through Black Flash scaling. Pretty comfortably into MHS territories. Gege also said Kenjaku would be capable of defeating Jogo in a close fight, so assuming that would include some of his stronger techniques like Maximum Meteor, Kenjaku would be around either 240 kilotons to as high as 80 megatons, seemingly with Uzumaki

Surprisingly though, all that isn’t as impressive as his own direct feat of surviving the initial gravitational pull of Yuki’s black hole. While Kenjaku required his antigravity system to survive the black hole’s bigger expansion, we actually visibly see him resisting the force of getting sucked in by the black hole's initial size. While this is admittedly a weird feat, it can be calculated, and the force applied to Kenjaku would be equivalent to 670 megatons of TNT, which is Large City level. It’s worth noting that’s just directly his physical stats, so his Maximum technique, Uzumaki, should pack a lot more power behind it.

Medusa in comparison has good scaling as well, capable of matching and harming the strongest Meister in DWMA, Stein. She even managed to hold her own against Justin after he performed Madness Fusion with her amped snakes, as well as dodging strikes from him. This would give her scaling to a bunch of early Soul Eater feats, most impressively being BREW surviving a large explosion, Justin reacting to sunlight, Mifune blocking a sniper round that reached the moon, and Black☆Star moving fast enough to outspeed his shadow. Medusa would definitely hold a notable speed edge at worst and completely shit blitz Kenjaku at best, but with just the manga, she’s unfortunately too weak to do any notable damage.

Note that I said with just the manga

The anime is being included here which for all intents and purposes I’m fine with. The manga and anime obviously differ at a certain point but Medusa is generally the same character across both continuities in terms of personality, backstory, and abilities. If we include it, we get Black☆Star creating huge dust explosions just by running, worth a kinetic energy around 7 gigatons of TNT, Island level and way stronger than anything Kenjaku is packing. While Medusa and Black☆Star technically didn’t interact together during the arc, she was capable of fighting on par with and damaging Maka, who at this point in the story is generally equal to Black☆Star before he continues to get stronger. Even some slight downscaling would make Medusa strong enough to overwhelm Kenjaku. This would similarly apply to her durability.

When looking at the number gap, Medusa generally holds a decisive edge. She’d be a bit over 8 times faster when comparing both the low and high ends of Mifune’s feat and Black Flash, and scaling to other light timing feats in the verse would make her blitz Kenjaku, made worse with Vector Plates enhancing her maneuverability. Kenjaku’s black hole durability feat trump's Medusa's scaling in the manga, but with the anime, she should hold a solid 10 times AP advantage which is enough to one shot. Combined that with her Black Clown’s Madness Wavelength giving her more room for leeway as explained in the above verdict, and realistically she just punches Kenjaku once and wins. Medusa sure was insert clever snake pun.

Conclusion

Kenjaku

"Regret, huh? I’ve forgotten what that feels like."

Advantages:

  • RCT can heal most wounds

  • More numbers via Cursed Spirit Manipulation

  • Bigger AOE overall with Domain Expansion

  • Could theoretically stop the possession

  • He’d take backshots

Disadvantages:

  • Inferior in the stat trinity

  • Snakes can devour the body whole and cancel out RCT

  • No counter to Madness Wavelength

  • More arrogant and prone to dropping guard

  • Most spirits get easily one shot by Medusa’s vectors

  • Role of the main villain hijacked by Fraudkuna

Medusa

"Let’s change this boring place with the power of the Kishin, which surpasses human understanding. Let’s create a world that aims to evolve."

Advantages:

  • Holds an edge in the stat trinity

  • Can completely bypass RCT via imploding snakes inside Kenjaku

  • Madness Wavelength can disorient Kenjaku

  • Less prone to arrogance in fights

  • Vectors can easily eliminate spirits

  • Functionally won in the manga

Disadvantages:

  • Smaller AOE

  • No healing options

  • Less numbers

  • Possession is ironically not useful

  • Her series is connected to Fire Force

Hey all. It's me again. Thanks for taking time to read the blog and what have you. Of course credit to all calcs not done by Rina (VBW for some of the speed calcs and Jogo stuff and Tommy for the Urame and Black Star's gigaton calc ).

And special thanks to well Rina for helping out this was a fun blog to do and she handled a good chunk of the Medusa side.

What's next? IDK gimmie a minute
